Someone complained about the Jedi above, but I think that's the key. Kenobi is introduced in this self-perpetuating system, the Jedi Order, that has long since lost any sense of purpose. They're a legislature's police group with an out-of-touch board of directors.

"the Old Republic's peacekeeping force for thirty thousand years, were presented mainly as a bunch of petty bickerers whose defeat largely happened off-camera thanks to an Executive Order(!)"

Ask any roving team of bandits, fortress city, or civilization: the needs of an insurgency are different from the needs of a ruler.

I was a "John Williams is overrated" person until he put the prequels on his back and carried them by himself.

We're supposed to identify with Kenobi. I'm really religious and I work in education advocacy groups or schools, and so the double-edged sword of talent rang true for me and, presumably, for anyone with children or in a management position. Witnessing someone's potential squandered because of the very thing that gave

True. I am disappointed Jesse left out III's climax, which is the whole trilogy in sum. It cuts between a goofy, computer-diminished fight dependent on nostalgia and a passionate, old-timey high-stakes duel shaped by the plot of its own trilogy.

I don't think you can take The A.V. Club to task for not having broad movie coverage. In fact, with the exception of short films, it's too site-consuming for my taste.

I disagree. He'll point out a bad version of an idea Lucas did, and then show that there are a few good version of those same ideas, usually when dialogue doesn't have to carry serious emotional weight (either because there's no dialogue or because a goofy moment happens).

Jesse didn't ignore existing criticisms, but addressed them.
He didn't overcorrect, but simply wrote, "There is life in the wreckage."

Chris Christie's love of 80s and 90s American rock, tendency toward insults, and physical condition make me think he's the official mascot.

So, what do you appreciate in music these days? Make some positive headway in having good music discussion here.

Let's have some class. The correct word was "oleaginous."

It'll shift around, but I have
Sufjan Stevens: Beloved, My John
Diplo: Where Are You Now
813: Damn, Yeah
Lord Huron: Love Like Ghosts
C. Duncan: Say
Sophie: Hard
Aisha Devi: Mazda
Churches: Down Side Of Me
Blessed Feathers: Everywhere I Go
Zola Jesus: Compass
Rustie: Death Bliss
Ghost Bath: Golden Number
The Sun Days: Ooo
Ah,

This is true, and so my guess is that his next album or the 1 after is awesome, and then people look back at this one and say, "This is where we stopped relentlessly hating Bieber."

I think you have to create a culture around it, right, which is where The A.V. Club has stumbled. I think movie and t.v. coverage gets the most clicks but is also the most over-complete, but video games, comics, books, and stand-up have all created a tone that leads to great conversation.

I suppose you're right.

I do think his style sticks out in a good way, and he has charisma to spare, even if it's slightly theater-kid-y.

His material was a little lacking previously, but it's so tight this year. It was a complete surprise for someone I considered a "just good" comic, and he reinvigorated the "I'm a dumb slob" persona for me!
