That character doesn't work without Foray's total lack of guile. The 1 weakness I thought Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes shorts had were that they never had a funny, sweet straight man. The closest we got was Porky Pig, and the worst we got was Tweety Bird. Some Jay Ward sweetness would have been nice.

The musician-as-technician aspect of the era (in general electronic music, too) is 1 of the most fascinating things. Orchestral is just too easy.
Certainly when it came to pencil and ink! The technical effort is entirely different, but the artistic effect is in pinscreen animation. Those transitional frames don't disappear all at once, they evaporate little by little to awesome results.
Step 1: birth a human.
Step 2: wait between 18 and 40 years.
Step 3: motion-capture that son of a bitch.
Step 4: ART.
It took me a second to figure out what people meant by, "Oh, the animation looks so much BETTER in H.D.!" It's certainly, um, clearer, the true measure of artistry.
