Oh for sure, but the exterior shots and some of the CGI was GCT, which is extra silly when you consider they weren’t even shooting there!

Yes, they did do that with the one train line in summers 2017/18. Definitely no Chicago train.

The funny part was that midtown wasn’t very crowded in this show, under normal circumstances I would’ve had the opposite reaction (why is there nobody at the station!). But the train itself was really empty. And had a dining car, RIP.

I thought that, too. She was lying on the phone about being at work and then probably about the architecture thing.

Man, this was nothing compared to what Mia did to the family in the book. She had a long, close (and very financially beneficial) relationship with Joe and Maddie. The show made Joe seem creepy and the whole thing kind of hands-off. Not that it wasn’t still awful, but they seemed to be trying to make it somewhat less

Seriously. I guess I didn’t really watch this thinking there were viewers who agreed with Jamie’s obnoxious philosophizing, but here we are, and the worse for it!

Yes, I was about to say, James Franco is of course the weakest link, but that in no way weakens it.

The book has subtlety and nuance and is a lot more compelling than this overwritten, subtext-as-text loose adaptation of it. The performances are good but the changes from the novel do it a major disservice.

While it’s obvious not true that “no” lesbian doesn’t want to U-haul after a few months or that no lesbian is a commitment-phobe, I might add that Shane is SO not a commitment-phobe! She’s been engaged twice, married once, and had several very serious girlfriends, all before 40. She’s restless and unfaithful, but that

And all my exes!

I thought that was a no-go due to Carmen being Latina and Shahi very much not? In terms of a potential return, I mean

I can sort of justify it at the moment with “well, Shane just moved back to town, so they’re hanging out more than usual and it’ll wane.”

Huh. I just saw her as no more important than any of the other women she was in love with over the seasons. Seemed pretty standard fare to me. But mileage varies, of course!

Right, I remember all that but it was just yet another Shane girlfriend, from my perspective. I just assumed they dated for a while and broke up.

I’d like to know what happened to Max, too, but maybe they’re avoiding any mentioned because the original told his story so badly.

Ha! Maybe, but I figured it was a bit of a reminder that Joy seemed to have Sapphic leanings (plus if Joy all of a sudden knows French, she may not be all Joy...)

Remind me what that was? I’ve totally blocked it out somehow.

Yes, I really don’t understand how they thought they were all set with a conclusion story-wise for Abdi, Nadia, and Chance (and, well, the whole town?) but we definitely needed to spend a ton of time with Annie and Joy leading up to something we basically already knew.

Frankly I wouldn’t expect any of them to still be friends with Max. And what am I forgetting about Molly? She and Shane were just dating in the end, right? I assumed they broke up ages ago.

I fear that, too, about Kit.

She was among the many they didn’t mention. I know Chaiken and the cast both disliked that final season so it may be a matter of just pretending it never happened rather than outright retconning it. Not sure.
