I find Steven's voice charactetisation so annoying, and long ago learned to hate cartoon crystals (well-snarked in an "Adventure Time" episode) that there isn't enough Sugar to make it palatable.

Like many young women of her generation and Old Country origins, my mother's telling _her_ mother that she had reached menarche got her a slap on the face without any explanation, then or ever…probably something to keep lustful demons away, as well as any reasonable hope of a confident, adult, sexual self-agency.
