My roommate used to have this show on in the background all the time so unfortunately I know the rhythms of the dialogue and what the show thinks a joke is.
Sheldon would have been making that observation in seriousness and so in the shows universe he wouldn't realize that it's supposed to be a laugh line. He only uses

That scene was one of the funniest and one of the best written dialogue I've scene in a comedy.
