Eh... I’m guessing a lot of those were very minor with a few physical penalties in there. I ref middle and high school football in Texas and if we had to cancel a game every time the 9th grade team got too many penalties then I would have a lot more free nights.

As on official... you can’t make this subjective in the least. You have to draw a super hard line. Verbally assaulting an official is subjective and that line gets pushed harder and harder every day and younger and younger kids/players are becoming increasingly hostile because they see their parents and coaches do it.…

I ref football at all levels and the pee wee and middle school kids have the best stories. That’s a solid one.

Which official called it out of bounds? If an official sees a player out of bounds and calls it that way, about 99% of the time, they will go with out of bounds. In this case, the line of scrimmage official probably did not have a conclusive decision but the deep wing official was emphatic and confident in the call...…

No, you’re thinking of a scrimmage kick. There is “illegal kicking” which is treated like batting in most cases and an “illegal kick beyond the line of scrimmage” which is the rule you are thinking of.

So... in NCAA those are both 15 yard penalties but it’s still 1st-10 because the ball has not been made ready for play yet on the new series.
