No only should it move, but it should “stay” in the position it is moved to.  I hate all these modern shifter designs that return to the center position after use.  

The 323-based Laser continued in other markets until the early 2000s when it was replaced with the Focus/Mazda 3. Interestingly enough, the fifth and final gen (also known as the Lynx in SEA) had an RS model with a 2 liter engine with 140+ hp.

I made the same mistake! Later generations were based on the 323/Protege platform, and the last generation was very similar to the 00 Protege ES sedan and 02 Protege5 wagon I had.
