Some people are smart enough to realize they are wasting time making junk work, instead of making the junk work for you.

Then what is it you are trying to say?

I was wrong. But still the algorithm is supposed to be extremely conservative.

Why is it a shame? Don't you want less crap to care about, while everything still works?

Computers have always been poorly designed. They are intimidating, unpredictable, high maintenance, and easy to mess up. Some people think memorizing commands, memorizing work-arounds, memorizing obscure dlls, learning half-assed config files, makes them smart somehow.

I read recently that HP has to sell 7 computers to make the same profit as Apple selling 1 Mac.

It's like a kinder, gentler version of the G4 Cube.
