I just think that it isn’t a term he’d use except for the fact that, as you said, young people are using it a lot on Twitter—and it’s because of that that it seemed so weird from him.

I take your point about the longevity of the term itself but its political prominence in recent years has been fueled so much by younger people on social media that his use of it here seemed to me that of an old person awkwardly attempting to reference something from Twitter, not of an Ingrid Bergman fan.
