As someone who recognizes maybe one in ten of these, but appreciates the skill and effort that goes into them, if you posted images of the originals beside them, or at least captioned them with the names of the characters, that would be very helpful.

No need to apologize. I don’t even need to watch the video above to know you’re talking about the opening to The Social Network, and it threw me out of the movie as well, and nearly spoiled the whole thing. You can’t claim that Zuckerberg (the character) is a genius after putting these words in his mouth. The only

There’s a joke about philosophers (stick with me, it’s actually relevant):

Based on the description on Wikipedia and IMDB, I worry that the people behind this film don’t understand the story. I’ve had friends read it and not realize that the daughter’s life is entirely in the author’s future — the story is being written around the time the daughter is conceived — because the protagonist’s

“Understand” is one of my favorite Chiang stories, and one of the best portrayals of super-intelligence ever. I liked Limitless, but it pales in comparison to “Understand,” and it would be a shame if it prevented “Understand” from being made.

Animals in (good) zoos lead (generally) far better lives than their wild counterparts. Prey animals aren’t constantly running for their lives, and predators aren’t constantly fighting to secure their next meal. If they are injured, they are cared for. Lifespans in captivity are generally longer than in the wild, and

The same principle applies though — the light stays on until the door is first opened after washing. That person puts away all the dishes, and you’re good. Of course, if you can’t convince people to live by the simple rule that opening the clean dishwasher means emptying it, then you have bigger problems that an

Unlocked can have any number of (dirty) dishes in it. Always unlocked. Then you lock it and run it, and it’s locked and full of clean dishes. The first person who opens it empties it, and it’s back to unlocked and empty/filling up with dirty dishes.

...or just never open the dishwasher without completely emptying it. Then locked = clean, unlocked = dirty.

(vague spoiler) This is a key plot element of Patternmaster by Octavia Butler.

This isn’t the best moment in the film. The best moment is the little smile Wonder Woman gets on her face after taking a good hit and realizing that she’s facing a worthy opponent, and then leaping straight at him with complete abandon, striking with her sword.

Exactly: not without oxygen. In a methane atmosphere, you could carry around a tank of oxygen and burn (the atmosphere with) it pretty much the same way here you could carry and burn a tank of methane.

“You’re a man looking through a keyhole. You’ve spent your life trying to widen it.” How is the next line not, “I will show you how to open the door.”?

This is an amazing short story with some deep ideas. It would be easy to screw up, here’s hoping they don’t.

The launch consists of attaining altitude and accelerating (a lot) to the east. They take off from Florida so that if there’s a problem, the wreck lands at sea with less chance of landing on people. So the first stage separates out over the Atlantic, and headed east at several thousand miles per hour.

I’ve seen this mistake several times, and it always frustrates me. Syndrome *does* have a superpower: he’s super-smart. He chooses to use his power to kill and destroy, so he’s evil, but he definitely has a superpower.

I’m betting at least part of it is that with digital effects she doesn’t have to sit in make-up six hours every day anymore.
