I’m reminded of how the script for Alien originally had Ripley as a man. The movie lost none of it’s impact by casting Sigourney Weaver as Ripley and she became one of sci-fi / action’s most enduring characters.

Right. As if casting a person of color in these roles would be like casting an alien or something. As if human beings don’t share many, many of the same kinds of experiences or have the same desires.

My take-away from this whole thing is that a bunch of white people are just really into white people. Given their explanations for the lack of diversity, I’m not sure I want them tackling any issues but white people issues.
