I’m not opposed to all taxes and all government spending. I just believe there could be MUCH less of both. I don’t want a nanny state.

Of course higher taxes means the government can spend more, but I don’t agree with your premise. Most of the time I would do much better on my own than if the government controlled my money. Social Security is a perfect example.

That doesn’t make me feel better. Nobody should be working for half the year just to pay taxes.
