It's a buyer's market. If the VFX houses play hardball, the studios take their ball and go to the next VFX house. There is no 'handling their contracts properly' when you're begging for scraps.
And yet, having worked in the industry, previz, there is still a steady stream of eager youngsters heading into town, looking for their break. And quite often, on the strength of their reel they get one.

So, for me, I meticulously track my credit card spending and never spend more than what is in my checking account. So, it's as if I'm using my debit card, but it has points and benefits. I'm not allowed to spend more than what is in my account.
It took me 5 years, but I've racked up enough airline points to book a trip to Europe this spring, so I'm pretty happy with credit.
