I was on board for a time, but stopped watching after the episode with Rick attempting suicide. Don’t need that sort of shit in my entertainment when it happens on the regular in real life.

I mostly just hang out and speak when I’ve got something to say. Usually something small, rarely something like what we’re doing now. It’s annoying when folks among the first wave are like that, but they’re usually shunned and move on. It’s sad when they stick around and gain enough influence and respect to dominate

Given that one example is extreme to the point of being ludicrous, one is based in something I entirely agree with (although the NFL should shut down because they’re highly exploitive of their players and the cities they host their franchises in, the fan behavior is just an extra reason), and one is entirely

I kind of see where you’re coming from, but I don’t think wanting to have a comfortable place to occasionally talk about something you find engaging is quite the same thing as talking about it 24/7 and harassing creators and non-fans alike over not doing things perfectly or revering it as much as you do. I’m aware

Hey, I stuck with those fanbases through a whole hell of a lot. Stayed on board with Homestuck right until the bitter end even after five solid years of a slow, painful self-immolation. But there’s a point where enjoyment crosses right over into obsession and entitlement, and that’s...

The second I start sending death threats to actors for not conforming to my ships or throwing temper tantrums because a trailer didn’t drop when I expected it to, I’ll let you know.

Homestuck fans, most Harry Potter fans, fair deal of MCU fans, quite a large number of Arrowverse fans... fans of most things I was a massive fan of two or three years ago, basically.

And thank fucking God for that. I’m not certain how much longer I could stand the “GIVE WAR INFINITY DADDY FEIGE” fans.

That was my line of thinking back when this sort of conversation was going on around Homestuck, but by the time the toxicity had tripled and the creator jackknifed the story off its rails in favor of pandering to those same toxic fans, I developed my view that all fans should just accept that the toxic few have

Other way round. If those writers and animators and all do go out of a job, they’ve got all my sympathies and hopes that they find gainful, meaningful employment elsewhere. But the fanbase would absolutely deserve to lose its toy.

I ain’t arguing that the delay is because of the fanbase’s behavior. What I’m saying is that given the direction the fanbase has taken, if the show were to shut down, they’d more than deserve it.

I mean.

I’d say that when we hit the point where numerous McDonalds outlets started reporting fans practically mobbing the location because they didn’t have enough of the meme sauce mentioned on the show, things passed from a few isolated weirdos to something the fanbase as a whole has to own.

Well, good. I’ve always been of the opinion that widespread fuckery on the fanbase’s part should lead to consequences for them regardless of work. Given how things have gone of late, I’d say the fanbase at large deserves to see the show canned.

How is it possible for one man to hold so many Objectively Wrong Opinions (TM)?

Oh no no no, I’m not talking about ALL mentally ill people! Just the bad ones! The ones we can point and laugh at for being so obviously deranged while still keeping our distance because they might infect us with the pathogen that makes them crazy!”

Because if you touch the crazy person then you catch the crazy, can’t trust those loonies man, have to keep them all locked up or else they’ll infect us all with the scary DISEASE of craziness!

...because he’s in the minority and that isn’t the majority by definition?
