The earthquake magnitude scale is logarithmic - a 5.9 has shaking 1000 times smaller in amplitude than a 8.9 (which is approximately what those other quakes were). Maybe a dozen 5.9s happen every week. Dude's got a point.

There is no reason why two different processes (tsunamis and warming) can't be happening at the same time! The Earth is a complex system.
