We’re going to keep being video game personalities. The industry is trending this way — look at Jim Sterling. We’re not the first (and we won’d be the last) to go indie like this. Publishers/Devs get what we are the audience we have. That’s why I was invited to play Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain this week.

Now playing

Write every day. Podcast every week. Vlog every day.

Make content that speaks to your audience. Like, India content. When I got my first gaming column/blog in Missouri back in the day, I took national stories and tailored them for Columbia. That worked. I built an audience because I wasn’t giving them another NCAA Football review; I was giving them a story about their

Tough question, Xyger. I’d like to think we’d be looking for specialized roles — community people, YouTube people, editors, hosts — and not have it be how it is now (i.e. everyone does something). Depends how fast we can grow, though.

Well, congrats on your journey so far. I know it’s not easy.

I’ve kinda answered this above, but the boiled down answer is time management. There’s so much to do each and every day, and there are just five of us to do it.

Totally. Again, it’s about time. We want to make those kind of videos, but we have so many daily responsibilities that it’s hard. However, as we grow, those opportunities keep coming.

Fallout 4. 100 percent. I need that in my life.

That’s how the industry is trending. Look at me — I came into IGN as a writer and left a video personality.

Colin & Greg Live for life! <3

Haha. Maybe we can make that a Patreon Milestone. ;)

It’s got so much better than we originally planned. We’ve been well beyond our expectations since Day 2.

The fear that we’re not living up to what the community wants. The best friends give us so much. If it wasn’t for their support on Patreon, we wouldn’t be able to do this. I said above that there’s just not enough time in the day, so I panic when I think about someone waiting for their thank you video or wondering why

Colin. Colin always thinks of something new to worry about. Even now he’ll start to feel good but freak out about a Patreon dip or something.

The complete lack of time. I thought I’d be able to take naps, stream games in the afternoon, etc. There’s always something to do. There’s always 12 unread emails. It’s nuts. At IGN, I had this focused role and giant support team. At Kinda Funny, there are five of us trying to do a little bit of everything. It’s

Lose the arm. (Nice avatar!)

Well, keep in mind I was a ‘burb kid. Portillo’s is everywhere. For me, Portillo’s is home. It’s the one place that’s been there and will always be there. It’s where Grandma took me on half days, where my high school friends and I would go in a rush right before closing, where I meet my Dad when I go home. My folks

We use Patreon as a subscription service. All of our main content is free, but if you want it early or exclusive access to us, you use Patreon. A F2P game might lock you out after an hour of playing, and that’s messed up as that’s the whole reason you play the game. Our content is all there for you; the paywall is

Have you read everything at youtube.com/playbook? If not, do that. Then, reach out to people once you have some content under your belt. Growth is all about collaboration. Work with people, not against them. There are no competitors, only collaborators.
