Briefly, I don’t think I was suggesting that these women should be silenced or that they should never be allowed to talk publicly.

This is yet another reminder that having a child does not suddenly make you an expert on literally anything, and that the act of birth is something that literally billions upon billions of people around the world, both very smart and incredibly fucking dumb, have done throughout millenia.
Ugh. She is the musical equivalent of The Silmarillion.
She is dreadful. I do not understand why anyone listens to her.
And you’ve been brainwashed to wear pants. Do you need to wear pants? No, society just tells you to because it’s widely accepted that your genitals shouldn’t be exposed. You may want to wear pants—I totally understand, pants are warm and protective. But others do not want to wear pants and are made to wear pants not…
A feminist wants any woman to do whatever she wants to in her life as long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else. If a lady wants to wear a burka, let her.
Idk about atheist and feminist, but you’re definitely a troll.
I have no strong feelings one way or the other about Hairspray, but I have to say that this overwrought (is there any other kind) theater-kid drama in the comments is giving me all kinds of life.
These are kids; telling a trusted adult is not a “wasted step”, and it also allows her some accommodation from the school, so she doesn’t have to ride the same bus with him or whatnot. Give the girl a break- she did nothing wrong. No one can ever be a victim perfectly enough to meet everyone’s standards.
The concept of fate or selection negating agency is really strange to me. At one point in the second half of the story, Moana asks the ocean to “un-choose” her, because she decides that the path is too difficult. While this emphasizes the ocean’s participation in the story it also emphasizes Moana’s hard work up until…
It really depends no what industry you are in. Academia certainly favours the stereotypical “natural” look, no make up and no hair dye. It is no doubt tied to agism and the notion that a young woman cannot have gravitas. Men, even younger men can perform this gravitas no matter what the age, just don a tweed coat and…
women who wear makeup get any kind of real shit thrown on them
The only person talking about headscarves is you. Grind your axe somewhere else.
I can’t believe she used the old appearance as a mark of courtesy argument. I’m from India, where being dark-skinned is still considered problematic. Makeup is being widely used to gain the appearance of paler skin and thereby making life far more difficult for those who either choose not to use makeup or who can’t…
People like to pretend beauty privilege isn’t a thing, but it empirically is. Better looking people, including people who use make-up to look good, are generally treated better, get higher raises, and hired more often than those who don’t. The fashion industry, looking the make-up sub-industry is largely apart of that.
Good luck. I know I’m an internet stranger, but I hope you get the help you need.
Wishing you health and healing.
I hope you get the care you need.
Well well, Kanye and I have something in common. I’m also being admitted to hospital this afternoon for my own ‘health and safety’. I have a feeling he will be getting a nicer room and better food than me.
