Yes you can. Only a complete moron thinks thinner aluminum is stronger than thicker aluminum. Especially when it comes to bikes. The reason they use that thicker material is specifically so it can be tougher and take more abuse. But yeah, you know soooo much more than the manufacturers.

The frames, wheels, tires, and sometimes forks are all stronger. The added 15 pounds does not come near to countering all the extra reinforcement. Plus, ebike frames are specifically designed to be stronger and take more abuse.

Like I said, the frames for ebike are stronger and bigger and the rims are usually wider and stronger, and many ebikes use forks with thicker metal casings. These make the ebike overall stronger than the non ebike. Its pretty simple stuff really. You build a bike thicker and stronger and it can handle more.

I can see this being useful in areas without a good charging infrastructure where you might occasionally have trouble getting to the next charger in time. Unfortunately they are only located in major cities with a great charging infrastructure, which makes them a bit useless.

Those price are not unusual for high end bikes. Even regular non-electric bikes get up to that range. My ebike was 5k and its considered mid level as far as the components.
