I actually consider James Cameron not getting a nod a snub. Avatar 2 is not classic Oscar bait, but one should not overlook the complexities involved in directing such a film. Very few filmmakers can do what Cameron figures out how to do.

Probably a good move considering the show ran out of plot two seasons ago.

Wait, so a sequel to... ANYTHING has to be up for Adapted Screenplay and not original, even if the content itself is original and not actually adapted from anything? What a bizarre rule.

It’s almost like The Winter Soldier stands out for a reason, even 8 years later...

The faceless, nameless enemy bothered me, too. For all the “realism” of the film, are we expected to believe a highly classified briefing (and not in any sort of SCIF, apparently?) wouldn’t name names? Of course it would.

Yeah, but I’d submit The Abyss is better than both Avatar films. The latter are certainly incredible technical marvels, but The Abyss has a better plot, better script, and better acting.

I’m psyched because in the press tour for Avatar, Cameron said we should finally see a 4K Abyss no later than March 2023.

Hard to move around much when there are only nine films to choose from, but The Abyss should certainly be higher, especially if we consider the extended cut canon. Its characters are clearly drawn, and the set pieces are incredible. Plus, it was probably the most difficult movie ever made at the time. You can find a

Hello, fellow pedant. May we find peace.

To think Liv Tyler bore that man’s children.

With Groot and Gamora having died, I think Gunn will let our band of idiots ride into the sunset with closure.

Marvel appears to be leaning in on the dark with their two lighter franchises. Quantumania hasn’t been marketed with any of the goofiness of the other films, and GOTG 3 looks equally bleak and intense.

I’ve long been cool on GOTG 2. Good enough film overall, but it suffered from the same thing as Love and Thunder - an unappreciated pseudo-auteur knocked it out of the park on the first go, and no one checked him on the second one.

I’m burned out on “serious interpretation needle drops” for trailers, but Spacehog was an inspired choice.

I often forget he also played a shady CIA guy in Quantum of Solace.

Bless you, David Harbour. You have your niche and you love it.

Looks great. I smiled as I saw how many little things from the games are present, right down to levels with jumping fish.

I think we can call it the best because it’s actually written well unlike... basically the entire franchise (minus Empire, which is impeccably written).

But he has a staff thing! And the guy from Screen Crush thinks he’s an amalgamation of some obscure comic!

I felt the same emotions. I was ready for the show to go dark and have the people of Ferrix stringing her up as an example, but I also didn’t think her arc would end in such a way.
