Why choose a VW pickup over the Ford? There would have to be some really compelling differences between the two model ranges to make me go with ze Germans. And I like German cars.

Meanwhile, across the pond. I’ve seen the equivalent of roughly $9.50/gallon (USD, US gallon) along highways. 2.20 euro/liter. 10% less at cheaper places.

Honestly an EV swap would be better for an RX-8.

The maintenance and repair costs are a bit higher than with Japanese cars but honestly the parts are not all that more expensive than those from Acura and Lexus and if you either wrench on your own cars or have a reasonably-priced indie German car mechanic (I have both) it really is not that bad. My mechanic charges

This is just anecdotal evidence on my part, but as someone who owns a 20 year old M5, 8 year old X5, and 1 year old A7 PHEV, I can say that with regular maintenance and care, these cars are nearly as reliable as their domestic and Japanese counterparts.  They are much more complex in many ways, but I would put Alfa on

Awkward younger sister with big glasses you might enjoy some day when you’re out of your hooning phase:

As a person that owned a 1st gen and looked to trade it in on a second. I would say Toyota killed the MR2 on the 2nd gen. The 2nd gen felt off. Sure faster and prettier, but overboosted. It was like driving a fast marshmellow after getting out of the 1st gen.

The first generation Toyota Prius was essentially just a crappy Toyota Echo with a battery shoved in it. The second generation was when it really, truly became an interesting consumer product to be taken seriously.

The Lincoln Continental from the first Matrix. Can’t find a still from the scene under the bridge so this will have to do, but man the car was just... perfect for the role.

So we’re supposed to “grow up” to get past David and Jason leaving, but tell me, what level of maturity do we need to get past this roadblock bullshit? It’s hard to read the article when you can’t even fucking see it.

Steve Urkel and his Isetta

Oh I know. Those are Land Rover level of shit storms. And the 6.4 is even worse.

Your choices as a “family car” were amusing - Mustang, Camaro, etc. The only practical one was the Accord and maybe the FoST.

Counter point:

impounded also just means towed for being illegally parked. the cops probably never even saw this car.

. A manual wagon musclecar.... brown right?

I was going to post about the choke as well.

Tuning and sync’ing carbs. Its not that its particularly difficult if you know what you’re doing. I just have no idea what I’m doing. I was raised on fuel injection. Bosch K and LH jetronic. I could write a book about those. Diagnose a failed fuel distributor or AMM (MAF) from across a parking lot.

First they came for our wagons, then our coupes, then they came for our sedans....

I hate that offering only one body style has become a perfectly viable business plan. I don’t want to pay an extra couple grand up front and an extra 10-15% in fuel costs... so I can sit higher? With the 60/40 folding bench, the number of things I actually need to move in a year that don’t fit in my sedan but could
