Beat me to it. This was the very first time I a domo-kun, and I can still spew a beverage out my nose by just thinking about this pic.

Agreed, the article virtually shouts "You say 'potayto', I say 'potawto'".

You and I seem to have come to the article from the same angle, and in that respect I agree. However as the discussion has developed, it's become clear that Charlie had more recent writing in mind. With this perspective, I see where she's coming from.

Oh darn, you keep extending the list! Stross is a great example, although he gets out there too. Rucker is on the fringe to be sure, and I'm thinking mainly of his ware series of books, which might be a bit dated for your purposes.

OK, I see what you did there... =D

Am I really the only one who thought of this?

Oh heck no, because as a father of two adult children I really need to see those diaper ads...

Mea culpa.

You can almost see the Fremen waving there at the south pole...

There are a few good peer reviewed journals out there (see Nutrition Research), but this is basic science, moving forward in small steps. That's just not digestible (pun intended!) for most folks.

Unfortunately nutrition studies are the very definition of pseudeoscience; anecdotal reports presented as science, lacking verification through repeatable, properly controlled, studies.
