The epitome of JJ is Maz Kanata’s line in The Force Awakens: “A good question...for another time”. That there is peak JJ.

JJ starts with clues for the cool value and then hopes to figure out a solution eventually realizes that his clues don’t really support a cool value, and just kind of gives up, hoping that everyone was so caught up in the clues that they won’t care about the cool value anymore.

That’s why the show falls apart in the last seasons. All these separate mystery threads finally need to be resolved and the resolutions are all unsatisfying and/or confusing.
