I don’t understand spousal support for rich people. It should be based on either financial need or plausible lost income due to reduced working as a (semi-)stay-at-home partner. Not how much luxury your sugar-parent lavished on you.

Spousal support is a separate thing from child support. The ex-spouse does not have to spend the money on anything except themselves.

The idea is that the non-earning (or less-earning) spouse has contributed to the career of the higher-earning spouse during the marriage, and should continue to benefit from that income after the marriage ends.
