The movie has some shite editing. They put the whole “Clark is secretly saving people” bit at the beginning of the film, which makes Pa Kent’s “you should let people die” speech in the middle of the movie totally pointless, because we know Clark chooses not to do that already. Even for the point he’s trying to make…

I think it’s mostly brand identity. The Abrams movies increased the profile and exposure of the original crew, and the EPs of this show (including Alex Kurtzman) were probably involved in that too, so they just feed themselves the narrative that this is what the people want.
