I should note that, no shit, I worked with two excellent editors on this, and they were able to help me knock this down from 8K words. So a reduction of approx 2,500 words. That was no easy task.

I’ll admit it, I cried when my dad sold his red Saab. I loved riding in that thing. It was the car that brought me home from the hospital and the one that took him to and from work each day.

I was in a bit of a rush, the sort of rush fueled by raw nerves and the ominousness of the day to come (as well as being late). It was a day to be spent in court, the sort of day where no matter what happens, you lose. Anyway, I was in no mood for the typical bullshit antics of other drivers in traffic that morning.

I once got out of a ticket because two cars got into a non-serious accident right next to me while rubbernecking at my pulled over car on the freeway. Back in the day, I used to drive an ambulance. We used to just leave the keys in it when we got to the hospital, making for fast getaways when necessary.
