“I think people should have a discussion about these issues because women have to understand who we are and what we stand for.”
I really don't understand the hostility; I think people should have a discussion about these issues because women have to understand who we are and what we stand for. We have to listen to the voices of ALL women, whether we agree or not. We have to make decisions together. You may not agree with the author, but we…
Sorry for derailing, but this article on the NYTimes is super thought provoking and also talks about expectations for women.
The nuance in Patrick Stewart’s statement is the very definition of liberalism.
If you honestly can’t see the difference that you just can’t trade away values - or that this trade-off even exists - there’s no point in you even participating in the discussion. There is nothing bigoted in what Stewart said, or what…
I love how you interpret liberal haven as meaning that people have to agree with all your viewpoints. You may want to look up the definition of the word “liberal”, dude.
This isn’t about how liberal you might or might not be. This isn’t a fucking litmus test. If Stewart was supporting a baker’s right to refuse to serve gay couples cakes that they’d make for anyone else I might agree with you, but that’s not what he’s doing. Since I would fight for a feminist baker’s right to decline…
Fuck the bakers indeed. But the government shouldn’t be getting involved in this.
you’re missing the fact that the case is about what was supposed to be written on the cake, not the fact that the customers themselves may have violated the business’ view of Christianity. that’s crucial here.
Here is the issue I have with this whole thing. Would you force an african american baker to make a lynching cake for a kkk member? How about a jewish baker to make a nazi cake? A pro-choice baker making an aborted fetus cake (10/10 would have a slice) for an anti-choice rally?
If you answer no to either of these, then…
I want to preface my response by saying that I absolutely am strongly in favor of gay rights and think that under anti-discrimination laws, a baker should have to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple just as for any other couple. But this wasn’t a wedding cake, it was a cake with a specific message on it saying…
Even as someone who is also extremely pro-gay rights, I do think there’s something to the argument that a baker should not be required by law to make a cake that says “Support Gay Marriage,” as opposed to being required by anti-discrimination law to just make a cake for a gay couple’s marriage.
He’s backing what he sees as freedom of speech; it’s pretty clear he does not agree with bigotry.
It’s very refreshing to hear someone of his stature articulating his position so well. I feel the same way as Patrick Stewart, but if I try to make this same argument I am labeled a Homophobe.
To say he “excoriated” you is giving him too much credit. Pinkham is an asshole who thinks and argues like a child. More accurate to say he threw a tantrum at you.
C.A. Pinkham completely excoriated me when I asked once that he stop posting and glorifying revenge stories where restaurant workers spit in or otherwise fuck with customers’ food. THIS IS WHY, DUDE.
Right... so attacking people who in your eyes have been failed by their fathers is A-Okay. Furthermore, attacking one person for being a drunk driver, a sex abuser or an animal killer is the same thing as attacking someone for being a bad actor?
So, Mike Huckabee = terrible person. That part I'm clear on. "His son is a loser because he's a bad actor" is the part I'm struggling with. It just seems very arbitrary and mean-spirited and misguided and ultimately pointless. And playing a misogynist in a film is not the same thing as being one in real life, is it?
So four entries into this Loser Sons column and not only are you hitting up Huckabee twice, but slamming a guy whose only crime that i can tell is being a shit actor and having a shit father. Perhaps the gimick is running thin if we’re here after only four entires.
I fail to see how this is even news. Dude acted in shitty movie! Film at 11
