The anxiety, depression, and moments of sheer panic I’ve experienced since the election are totally new to my middle-class white life. The slap in the face all thinking persons were dealt last November was, for me, also a wake-up call to recognize my own biases and privilege.

The thing that infuriates me the most - beyond this child’s rape, torture and murder - is the piss poor job the local police did in investigating her disappearance.

Once something of this magnitude is acted out, the fact that it was once a thing that was just planned or wanted is just a detail. A detail that requires the most severe of repercussions, of course, but it’s not the bulk of the horror anymore.
