Perhaps you were using an older version.  It’s still not a real desktop experience, but it’s much better than it used to be.  I can plug my Dell laptop’s Thunderbolt mini-dock thingee (highly technical there, I know...) into my Galaxy Note 10 (no Samsung Dex dock needed) and plug into a monitor... bam, “desktop”…
