But Trump comes in on January 20th. And he gets a Republican SCOTUS, a Republican Congress, and 33 states will have exclusively Republican-controlled legislatures. What happens, especially before 2018, will shape America for years. The shape of the Supreme Court. It isn’t just a 4-8 year thing.

The main political parties have said they won’t actually block article 50, just suggest some amendments. Any amendments are likely to be as anaemic as anything else these parties have served up over the last few years. There’s no good legal reason why the challenges of the devolved parliaments (Wales, Scotland, NI)

What kind of high? I only have pills/ecstasy this evening. Please advise.

Brexit will not be rolled back tho. You know all the reasons why Trump IS like Brexit - a white paroxysm in the face of an increasingly globalised world, a world of immigration, diversity and all those other things that challenge white western peoples’ sense of entitlement.

Trump will be out in 4 to 8 years, Brexit is

Yeah, Paris is a massive failure alright.

Sadly I think women working the double shift of work both within and outside the home is far too common. I do think Irish men are more inept than most though, and usually get passed from the care of their mothers to the care of their partners without any period of independence in between.

The people of Ireland haven’t, and are still campaigning to repeal the 8th amendment to the constitution.

No shit. I can name two other women in Ireland who died after being denied abortions, Sheila Hodgers and Michelle Harte. No need to link, we will never forget Savita Halappanavar and we are constantly campaigning.

Oh shit, we totally forgot that for the ten minutes that it took to be happy for this couple. Thanks for the reminder, we’ll get right on it.

Having lived in both places, I disagree. Talking about religion in public is rather gauche in Ireland, and certainly not a badge of pride. Anyone in the public eye who talks about religion as a motivator for behaviour is publicly ridiculed and is often seen apologising/”clarifying” a few days later.

Yes, but the census is filled out by the head of the household, who fills in the religion of the other inhabitants. I don’t know of any young Irish people who would describe themselves as Catholic, and I heard a lot of anger from them when they found out that their parents had marked them down as Catholic.

To be fair, Ireland is a deeply Catholic/Protestant nation.

Thanks, we are. The campaign to repeal the 8th amendment to the Constitution is ongoing, and a higher percentage of Irish people support abortion access than people in the US. The problem is a political elite with no appetite for change.

Does anyone have any recommendations for sexy-sounding music? Champagne Glass by Alphastates or Paper Romance by Groove Armada, Is this Desire? by PJ Harvey, that sort of thing :)

Jia! Where are our tinybitchtapes? I really miss them :(

Please don’t blame the mentally ill for the morally deficient.

I’m so sorry for your struggle. Your husband sounds like dead weight, entitled and unwilling to change. I hope that writing things down has helped you to gain perspective. With regard to:

Speaking as someone in the UK - nah.

My boyfriends best friend went to the Gaelic school and he can recall about as much Gaelic as I can Spanish. This isn’t Ireland or Wales.

...dirty.
