It's so cool to me that the Elterngeld allows young families to take time off and travel the world for six months or so.

#notallGermans, right?

It's hard for "foreigners", but it's pretty hard for natives too! He probably couldn't speak it himself and chose to be insulting rather than admit his ignorance. I think that comment perfectly sums up how Irish-born people often think of people with Irish heritage: You're outsiders who have an interest in the country

I'm not arguing with you, I was giving you a heads up in case you were unaware of the phenomenon.

This is off-topic, but people that were born and raised in Ireland tend not to react well when people of Irish heritage call themselves Irish. I imagine that when you say you're of Irish descent you mean to say you have a feeling of connection and solidarity with Irish people, but most Irish people (#notallIrish) are

It's true that there's no hate crime legislation in Ireland, but I also think there's no legal protection for people who are trans. I'd like to be corrected on that if I'm wrong! Here's some info from Citizens Information:

People calling Ireland Eire when speking in English is a pet peeve of mine, and it's technically incorrect. But there's a much more important point being made here.

Sorry to hear therapy isn't working for you :( Have you considered changing therapist? Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Solution Focused Therapy can often be very helpful for emotional eating and depression, but the connection you feel to your therapist is way more important than their theoretical orientation.

Wait, I thought there was mortal sins and venial sins, and you couldn't be forgiven of the former? Or did that go out with Limbo?

That's completely true. Call someone a grammar Nazi here in conversation and the whole room goes quiet as tumbleweed drifts through...

Thank you, I didn't know that! I'll check that out now, as it's very relevant for my work and contrary to what I was taught at college, which is a bit scary. Thanks again!

My comment was not a my-continent-is-better-than-your-continent taunt, it was 1) a statement that I don't know enough about eating in your country to make a statement about obesity there, and 2) an observation that the foods that my sister has tasted are not what she's used to and not to her taste. Saying "our high

I thought for a moment the headline was
