Thanks, B. I'm gonna read that. I'm working my way through the Harlem Renaissance authors right now, coz I'm neighbourly like that. This week at the Uptown Pervs Bookclub is The Blacker The Berry, which is brilliant and heartbreaking.

It was done before by a man. He wrote a book about his experiences of going through the south with darkened skin. I forget when it happened. Maybe 50's or 60's? I'd recommend reading it if I could remember the title.
Very true. It helps explore different issues I never considered and makes me want to become more educated so I can teach her. I'd be overjoyed to make a ripple.
It's colorism on one side and microaggressions on the other. People crow themselves arbiters of your race when it's difficult to define it to start. Fucked up. My daughter will have to go through it. At 2, there are even hints now.
You're right. Education is Eurocentric with limited focus on what civilizations were doing before they were "discovered". Most people are still segregated by race with a small minority of the country living in diverse environments. Media imagery is largely catered to white lives and experiences that validate it while…
LOL, I can't believe you missed the perfect viral shitstorm that was the "white yoga lady tears" article. I'm pretty sure the author had to change her name after the entire internet was done mocking her.
I hadn't read that story and just... omg...
Had a big talk about this with my therapist, actually. He's mixed-race and growing up, saw a lot of things from either side of the fence, but he was either never "white" enough to be included nor "black" enough to be included in various circles. This was a few decades ago, but I don't think it's changed that much.
Yes but did you cry because you know the black lady was jealous of your yoga pose?
I think there's a difference between tanning and trying to make yourself look like another ethnicity, but whatevs.
You are so brave!
This is just perfection on every occasion of it's use.
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen.
She kinda had me until the darkening her skin thing. You wanna wear a scarf? Wear a scarf. It's a scarf. Plenty of ladies wear scarves. But darkening your skin? Okay, no.
Incorrect, try again.
It's not taking a picture of yourself that I find off putting. If you can't figure that out you might need some remedial reading classes.
And yet, it's still off putting!
It's the self-centeredness, the audacity to think I'm so important that people just need to see how special I am that's so off-putting.It's my opinion that it's retarded. I dont really care what you think.
