Please do tell her. I am not allowed to meet one of my brother’s friends because of my stated position that, as she is an “anarchist”, if I ever meet her I will punch her in the face and take her wallet so I’m relying on you to fuck with an anarchist on my behalf.

Again, saying “this is not a debate” is not the same as ignoring them. It is a statement of position: it puts the burden of proof on the trans-exclusionists.

When I (and I imagine the author) say “Trans women are women. This is not a debate.” that is not intended to be the end of the topic. I understand that the conflicting viewpoint has to be confronted but we don’t need to (and indeed should not) concede the validity of the point to do so.

Calling it a debate implies that there are two (or more) equally viable positions. There are not two equally viable answers to the question “are trans women women?” any more than there are two equally viable answers to the question “do vaccines cause autism?”

That’s hardly a barrier. Sure, your priest can’t tell you to vote for Joe Smith but the priest can say it’s against God’s Will to vote for, say, pro-choice candidates. And wouldn’t you know it, old Joe just to happens to be staunchly anti-choice!

That GIF is so perfect. The Republican truck wanted to take the ACA (a recycling bin that is well-intended but has some trash in it) away. But instead of the tidy cleanup they promised they now have a plan that will fling garbage everywhere.

I am continually surprised that that is an actual name that someone gave their child.

I don’t think this is “taking back” the term so much as it’s allowing the power of the term to be worn away by use. That’s not a bad thing, necessarily, but it is a different process with a different outcome.

I just got back from Disney. We weren’t able to go the the Hall of Presidents because they were “preparing for the new president”. Really killed the whole “most magical place on Earth” vibe.

Here’s a petition and the group that started it (United We Dream) has things you can do.

Thank you for pointing out that that was a GIF so I could refresh my tab and not miss out.

[Sorry. Replied to the wrong person.]

“Enamored of” just sounds wrong though...

Did you push her down some stairs? I’m not saying you should have pushed her down some stairs, but did you?

If you are asking whether these sentences feel excessive, that’s entirely subjective. Others have said that they feel the sentences are not harsh enough (whether they are being hyperbolic is up for debate but still) and several have said the sentences feel about justified. Personally I am leery of double-digit

after the Trumpocolypse

Someone with access to Trump needs to start talking about how the GREAT George Washington willingly left the presidency for the good of the nation. Such a GREAT hero. It would take a GREAT man to make that kind of choice.

Just marrying a US citizen does not grant citizenship or legal residence. In order for Melania to be a legal resident through her marriage to Trump, at some point Trump would have had to fill out and submit forms. This would require 1) literacy and 2) giving a shit about someone else, so I think it’s far from assured

With something like the Women’s March, I agree, why are allies even asking what they should be doing? Get out and march. But with something like this strike—which seems to be specifically about highlighting the work done by women—it’s easier to muddy the message. If allies strike as well, does that defeat the purpose?

“Heartbreaking and Wrong” should have been his campaign slogan.
