Dammit. Why does clicking the star 80,000 times not grant you 80,000 stars?

Do you understand that you can have empathy for someone without agreeing with them? I don’t agree with the woman’s politics, I don’t think of her as a hero, I don’t want her in power, I don’t like her. That changes nothing about the fact that, simply because she is a woman, she is subjected to certain obstacles that…
I invite you to read my post again, specifically the part about disagreeing with her politics.
The problem (or part of it) is that polls showing support for gun control are not what matters to elected officials. What matters is the opinions of people who will actually vote. Increasingly those people are only found at the fringes of the political spectrum and unfortunately more often on the right than on the…
As time has gone on, both political parties in the US have pulled farther and farther toward their respective political poles (Dems to the left and Republicans to the right) so moderates in our legislature have become really rare. While that’s been happening there hasn’t been a similar shift in political leanings…
Well in the case of Dumbledore there are maybe some references to him being gay if you happen to be looking for them so making the announcement after the fact feels tacked on. In this case we have in-universe confirmation of the character’s orientation so (leaving aside timeline shenanigans) it’s conclusively part of…
I remember people saying this when Rowling first announced it but I have to disagree. While there may be references and allusions in the books if you were looking for them (and from what I’ve seen those allusions can really be read either way) many people weren’t looking for them. It’s not Rowling’s fault that…
Except in this case they are explicitly confirming the character’s orientation in the movie rather than making an announcement after the fact. I do agree generally that this was probably not the best way to introduce a gay character, though.
No you see, bi people (especially bi men) don’t exist so you have to be exclusively attracted to vag or peen for your entire life no take-backs.
So making reboot Sulu a happily married gay man would mean that in the original timeline, Sulu was in the closet.
Yes, we know who you are.
Did you know that conservative women can be victimized by partiarchal attitudes, too? It’s true! It’s entriely possible to disagree with these women’s politics while also being concerned that they are being handed a raw deal due to their gender.
... but you repeat yourself.
I can kind of see Takei’s point that it’s not great to “arbitrarily” (in his mind) change characters’ orientation to increase representation. Creating a whole new character just to make them gay smacks of tokenism though.
I’m not saying I agree with Takei but it kind of reminds me of some of the thoughts around Dumbledore being revealed as gay after the fact. It feels a little bit disingenuous I guess: “Oh you thought there were no gay characters because we never mentioned it at all before now? Well ha ha joke’s on you because…
I will not be persuaded by a gif, no matter how cute.
I think technically it would be “‘nein’ heisst ‘nein’”. Meinen is more like “to think” so “‘nein’ meint ‘nein’” is talking about the beliefs of the word “nein”.
I mean that is obviously a shitty politician trying to stir up their shitty base but, yeah. Of course. If you’re having sex with someone and they say “stop” you are committing sexual assault if you continue to have sex with them. Even if they consented initially. Even if you’re married. Boo freaking hoo that you don’t…
Sorry, Internet Stranger, but no :P
I have the book but I haven’t started it yet! I’m so excited. I do skulk around the genius pages for the show though and there’s a lot of good information there as well.
