They drive the same car against eachother, and I believe they rotate each matchup which cars they're driving. So R8 vs. R8, GT86, vs. GT86, etc.

Of course there's more to a BMW than straight line acceleration, but you don't expect the same explosive acceleration from a 4 door sedan as you do a GT-R for example. Although for most of us the M5 badge alone would give it away.

I would, my $25,000 V6 Mustang is faster than pretty much every non-M BMW. They haven't been very quick compared to the rest of the world for a while now.
