A helmet saved my life. Instead of dying in the middle of the highway, I was home that evening with my family. The helmet was destroyed and I didn’t even get a concussion. My gloves sacrificed themselves to save my hands, but jacket and boots were basically undamaged (until the medic cut them off me).

Direct fall on my helmet at 60 mph after a high-side and slid 100 ft downhill on my head like a pendulum. EMT cleared me as only having a minor concussion with no internal bleeding or bruising/fractures. In other words, your generalization is wrong.
