Agree with Michael here. The cult, I think, will be brushed aside is irrational, ineffable, mysterious, whatever.

Haven't noticed it mentioned how the closing shot of the episode fades out of the room, revealing black stars drawn on the window, and in the shot circumscribing Cohle looking at the pyramid thingie. 'The black star rising.' What it means - we still don't know.

well ok then. Still not likely, but maybe one police would be happy to gloss over.

then why be seen at the crime scene investigations? What additional info would be gathered there?

Just to do the hole in the story routine, it seems unlikely crime scene forensics would corroborate Cohle and Hart's version of events at Ledoux's place, esp re: angle of bullet hitting ledoux and explanation for why the larger gent would be running away from the compound, in enough of a panic to trip on a mine.

I see. You have a good memory. My line of thinking is the suicide victim received burn scars from the same source as the yellow king, made more plausible by his admission he's met him.

Erik Adams is conspiring with Cohle — keep the bullshit flowing and the 2012 cops guessing.

How could Rust go deep cover into the Yellow King clan when he was a detective initially on the case? Whoever the killer(s) is(are), they probably know Cohle was on the case.

burn scars? When was that mentioned again? the guy who killed himself in prison had quite the scars, and maybe the type consistent with burns?

drugs? evidence collected from yellow king crime sites? the pyramid thingies? something falsely incriminating when seen with the 'he dunnit' hypothesis.

We saw he plugged Reggie in a fit of disgust. no reason to think it was calculated.

Indeed they say Tuttle dies due to medications, more up Rust's alley, no?

Yeah, think the shadow in Rust is just him willing to negotiate and consider the nature of evil. Not that he's the killer. Just some weirdly virtuous takes one to know one type of thing.
