See, I'd argue she is doing both. She knows her audience, she knows her clients, and she does exactly what they want.
Except not doing grown-up business-oriented interviews is a key part of that masterful PR. Her success speaks for itself. Also being a smart businessperson and being "twee" or baking cookies or acting a bit girly or whatever are not mutually exclusive.
I can't find it in my heart to hate her. She seems smart and earnest. Sure, she's a little twee but it works for her and doesn't distract from her talent. She writes her own songs, she seems to genuinely care about her fans and she gets a lot of unfair blow back for being a "serial dater" which she handles with a lot…
"Indian-heritage American being confused for a Pakistani activist." In the case of Mindy and Malala, there's a difference but the link I clicked on said "racist." That's not at all racist to mistake one person from another especially when they're of similar descent. Maybe foolish or misinformed, but not racist.
Is it wrong that part of me is actually just heartened by the fact that an old white man even knew who Malala was??
Wait a minute here...
I could use a hangover beer. Agreed. But by all appearances, those kids are awful.
Annie Lennox backed off some of her "feminist lite" comments about Beyoncé in a new interview. "I adore Beyonce," she said. "I think she is a sublime performer, artist. I think there's no one [who] can touch her."
I'm surprised she's backtracking, honestly. She didn't really say anything wrong in the first place!
I think Lennox was right and it sucks people are making her backtrack.
RE: Annie Lennox vs Beyonce....I just think this whole thing is kinda ridiculous. I read her original interview where it was very clear she wasn't slighting Beyonce as a human being OR a performer. If I recall correctly, she actually said she ENJOYS watching Beyonce's performances and heaps some praise on her.
Someone elsewhere in the comments said it better then me:
So you as a Latino identify with the oligarchy families? Fiallo? Vigalo? Barbalho?
Do you think they consider you one of them?
That's fair enough. I respect the way the author connects fond memories of her Dominican upbringing and grandmother to his products.
So the headline should have read "one of us...rich folks", then?
Thank you so much for saying this.
Oscar de la Renta would have been disgusted by the notion you were collecting his bedpans less being "one of his people."
"He created clothes for women."
Oops. I thought your headline was ironic. My bad.
