Well, you can have a protagonist who isn’t a hero. Even though as we see with Breaking Bad, Fight Club... or well - Joker - the chances that you gather toxic fans who Think the protagonist Is a hero is high...
What really fascinates me most abut the character of Harley is her downfall from a position of reason and control over him into madness and chaos.

Missed it by just this much. :) It probably wasn’t one of the greatest hits of its time, although it ran for a good 5 seasons.... didn’t get too many reruns, I guess.
Looking back, it maybe wasn’t one of the big shows of the era. Probably didn’t get too many reruns. It’s not on Charlie’s Angels or Starsky and Hutch level of nostalgia for as many people.
It may be kind of an origin story, they love doing those these days... Colt’s first contact with the world of crime...
I hope the producers of the movie are aware of it... even if most of the actors are too young to have seen it on its first run...
At the very least I’d expect Margot Robbie to be one of the leading ladies... :)

Biggest obvious difference is that the movie is only the first half of the book. Part two kinda did the rest, but of course that movie is worse...
