Good thing you pointed out the snopes article. Did you read it?

At least 50% of medical costs are associated with medical care other than emergency visits. It doesn’t’t have to be all or nothing.

It looks like the US government spends about the same as the next 4-5 countries. What are the US government spending their money on? Maybe not so efficient after all?

My point was that many healthcare decisions can be researched before you go to a health care provider. I also suspect that the majority of people having emergency care are not ending up bankrupt.

The majority of doctor visits are not for emergency visits.

I would argue that all those government inventions are funded by the government but the majority of people working on them are not government employees.

Not every healthcare visit is for an emergency.

That is the problem. Why can’t the prices be public? Then I could make an informed choice as to which doctors office to visit or if I am even going to see a doctor.

I’d be curious to know what percentage of medical visits are of the unplanned variety.

Not really. Just about the same.

That is truly a very steady camera, didn't even move when the helicopter flew under it. And am I blind but where did it disappear to after flying by?

Yep. I’m in philanthropy, and have been for 15 years. You can’t just toss these numbers up unsubstantiated.

I see no need to cover breastfeeding up, but I think the example given in the story is completely exaggerated, or as told by a nervous first time mother.

Read this article for a slightly different conclusion.

Mr. Harriot, I know you don’t care about my opinion (not being snarky) but I must say this is what I consider to be one of your better pieces. I don't often agree with you but I sure like your writing.

I’m not saying she didn’t ask for it, but punching someone probably isn’t the best response.

I get that the person making the call deserves your scorn, but why the cop in this case?

Sounds like poor people can’t afford a city sticker and thus get ticketed at a higher rate in poorer neighborhoods. It may have more to do with income level and as a consequence impact minorities more. Unfortunate and perhaps should have some sort of relief built into the law but I am unsure of how that is racist.

Salvery, a big problem. Most likely the USA’s biggest mistake.

This may be all about race though suspect that is not the whole story. I would guess the neighbors are not happy with the use of the front yard. If you look at the video, it is the only house with a tent and party in the front yard. Not that that is wrong but probably is not fitting with the neighborhood traditions.
