Yeah, and current average age of a U.S. car is around 12 years. That’s tens of millions of legacy ICE vehicles still on the road, plus whatever are still being sold in 2030. I just don’t understand claims that this is going to be anything but a long, long transition.

Thanks for posting that. I would have never known that reading the above article or headline, which instead strongly suggests that someone was browsing MAGA sites and pasted the wrong link.

Back in the day the phone number 800-IRS-1040 was a phone sex line. (I needed to file very old tax returns) The IRS had to use something else. It’s even worse now with .com .net .org .gov to add.to the confusion.

Straight up copypasta. You know the person making that flyer didn’t check they were pasting the right link and were fucking around downloading viruses on your government computer.

Hanlon’s Razor always applies.

In spite of the lack of impact (I once saw it compared to a car running over a soda can) this can be extremely traumatic psychologically for engineers. Sometimes it’s career-ending.

You really want to take a brand-new truck out in the woods and get pinstripe scratches down the side? Or bang up the rockers on a boulder?

Years ago, a friend of mine won a large settlement case. With the proceeds, he went out and bought a brand new 1998 Dodge Ram 2500, and paid cash. That weekend he took myself and another friend out to go off-roading. Within 20 minutes of being off the road, he tried to squeeze in between two trees. He ended up tearing

Honestly I see those as a failure point that doesn’t need to exist. Mirrors are a nice, simple solution that can be replaced cheaply.

Say, that looks like an interesting read!

Mercedes is undoubtedly a car person, but after her it’s pretty grim.

They’re building their own Jalopnik, but with blackjack and hookers.

Really??? Your response is to attack the readers after losing two beloved writers, both of which had far more to do with the success of this site than you have? If you actually give a damn, read the comments. Why is it that so many people specifically mention how good Mercedes is in their comment? What is it about her

If your first reaction is “Grow up” then you are missing the point. Here is an opportunity for you to step in and reassure the folks who frequent this site that while you are losing two unique voices, you have many more that are committed to continue on the tradition of what made Jalopnik great: unique and irreverent

“Millions of people read this site”

Somewhere, deep within the steel and concrete labyrinth that is Troy Michigan’s Zoning and Housing annex (Inspections and Enforcement wing), a grizzled man slumps into his chair. Tracy, D. - case file TM - 18-22/JP-Fe2-O3 had meant so... so damn much to him.

Oh... I, uh, don’t know if I’ll still come around anymore much after this.

What amazes me about Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars is that the ordinary ones are the same price as they were when I was a kid 45-50 years ago. Not as nicely made, but still, that’s kind of amazing. And good enough to be destroyed by kids.
