My guess would be a combination of only counting standard registrations and not cars registered with historical or vintage plates, and/or state DMVs not breaking out brands with few vehicles and not currently selling new cars in the US when providing aggregate data to 3rd parties.

They may be confusing the issue by counting cars built by the independent Triumph Motor Company (1923-1944) or Standard-Triumph (1944-1960) as “Triumphs”, but categorizing cars built by Leyland (1960-1968) and British Leyland (1968-1984) under “Other” as Leyland and BL are defunct. They are probably further confusing…
