true it really depends on the cost of what they could be refitted with to be more fuel efficient and how much fuel they are wasting

I'm talking about fuel efficiency, though if you realize that please explain how the stress on the airframe effects file efficiency? Unless it's something with drag I am lost

now I don't know too much about the c-17 or its engines but couldn't the USAF try an engine refit? If the c-17 will be in service for another 15 years+ I imagine that will be enough time for the engines to pay for themselves.
