Starting about five (?) years ago when I was up visiting in Massachusetts if you wanted to take leftovers with you the server would bring a box to your table and you’d do it yourself. I think this might be statewide policy. I thought that was a little strange, but I was told it was because of food adulteration issues.

Regnery’s (I assume the book is going to Regnery) legal department:

David Brooks (no relation to my screen name) is like this too, often “explaining” America to itself and saying we’re wrong, without exactly saying why.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, and we were all almost definitely on meth.”

This whole debate struck a raw nerve with me, a childless Manhattanite with no real personal stake in this, because I know a lot of native-born Upper West Siders. Most of them went to “alternative” (pricey, private) schools but some will say, “I went to public schools and they were great! Charter schools are an

It was/is the Upper West Side, not the Upper East Side. The Upper West Side is a hotbed of “do as I say, not as I do” liberalism. On the Upper East Side I doubt they’d care much because the white kids wouldn’t be going into the public schools in the first place. Well, maybe on the east-Upper East Side, but I can’t

I read a memoir a long time ago, like 30 years ago, written by a guy who fell on hard times and became homeless. He had a dog, and the book was called “[Dog’s name] and Me.” I wish I could remember the name. In it he recounts how people would come up to him and bring food for the dog, but not for him, and at least

Ah, but the NRA is imploding, financially, and her salary is part of the reason. In six months she’ll be lucky to get $15 an hour and a Friends ‘n Family 20% discount pass at the local Ammo & Bait Shop. That’s my hope anyway.

Me too but your comment is excellent timing. Just recently it was confirmed that there will be a third season of The Windsors later in the year.

There’s a great Broadway musical called “1776" that’s being revived (it was even made into a move in the early 1970s), probably because everyone has been going wild about “Hamilton.” It gets revived every so often, and as far as I can remember Alexander Hamilton isn’t even one of the characters.

Maybe they should have done it telegram style.

I guess the slumlords will just have to have a change of habit.

I can just imagine what that family would do to Palestine.

As a New Yorker I thought this quote was strange:

I cook a lot and eat like a horse. A huge portion of a lasagna, accompanied by a salad and maybe some cookies or ice cream for dessert, and washed down by a glass or three of wine, is not an uncommon type of meal that I make, at least on the weekends. No ill effects.

You don’t need to go overseas. New York has tons of horrible pizza. There’s a reason why there are so many Domino’s Pizza outlets in Manhattan; so many of the other places are even worse. Although I’ve never seen corn, peas, carrots, or cheddar cheese offered on NYC pizza, but I’ve seen that and worse offered in

I think those are just umlauts, or whatever the Turkish term for them are. German has a lot of them. Über. München.

I starred this but I disagree! Ravioli and stuffed shells filled with ricotta are also excellent. I once made french toast that involved ricotta, 10/10, but it was so rich I could barely leave the table after eating it. It’s also good on crostini, with a little figs and honey...
