I cook a lot and eat like a horse. A huge portion of a lasagna, accompanied by a salad and maybe some cookies or ice cream for dessert, and washed down by a glass or three of wine, is not an uncommon type of meal that I make, at least on the weekends. No ill effects.

You don’t need to go overseas. New York has tons of horrible pizza. There’s a reason why there are so many Domino’s Pizza outlets in Manhattan; so many of the other places are even worse. Although I’ve never seen corn, peas, carrots, or cheddar cheese offered on NYC pizza, but I’ve seen that and worse offered in

I think those are just umlauts, or whatever the Turkish term for them are. German has a lot of them. Über. München.

I starred this but I disagree! Ravioli and stuffed shells filled with ricotta are also excellent. I once made french toast that involved ricotta, 10/10, but it was so rich I could barely leave the table after eating it. It’s also good on crostini, with a little figs and honey...

It’s long been a pain in the ass to get back into the US from Canada.

Presumably he meant the kids living on Park Avenue within walking distance of Midtown Manhattan. You can’t get much more inner city than that.

Behar was also a high school English teacher before she turned to comedy. Her father was a truck driver. No one with any common sense would mess with her.

This is picky, but Kennedy pledged to put a man on the moon, partly as a response to post-Sputnik hysteria. It didn’t happen until July, 1969, when Nixon was president.

You are correct! I had forgotten about Carlos Danger.

That’s amazing. Thirty churches, so the average congregation is 70 people? How do they survive? I would imagine they’re not a regional draw, the next town over probably has 30 churches of its own. Not to mention the money the locals also must give to televangelists and to support various missionary efforts, which are

If I had a sunroom I’d slip-cover the seat cushions in that fabric.

You must remember, then, the 2013 campaign. Quinn was in the lead, and de Blasio was in fourth place. Then came the ad where he’s walking around with his son Dante. Overnight it was over. Why did we waste the money even having an election?

At least someone still knows who Foster Brooks was. Have ever seen a roast hosted by Dean Martin, whose shtick was also a lovable inebriate, where Foster Brooks gives a tribute? I’m not sure why public intoxication/alcoholism caused so much mirth in the 1960s and 70s. (Neither, apparently, were really drunk when they

It’s not that strange. I knew municipal employees who were members of the United Auto Workers. They didn’t maintain the sanitation fleet.

The name sounded familiar so I turned to wiki. Oh yes, that Kathy Ireland. Net worth: $420 million.

Don’t forget the Massachusetts connection. Warren Wilhelm was spirited off to Cambridge when he was very young and graduated from Cambridge Ringe & Latin. (That explains his offensively aggressive passion for the Red Sox.) Bloomberg is from Malden or Medford, somewhere like that. New York imports its underwhelming

McDonald’s is somewhat a unit of global currency. Decades ago The Economist magazine created a Big Mac index to gauge whether a currency was over- or undervalued, based on the cost of a Big Mac.

I once had a native Bostonian say to me (a New Yorker) with a straight face that Boston had made great strides in racial reconciliation because it had an Italian American mayor (Tom Menino). The current mayor is named Marty Walsh.

Mike Wallace also died in 2012, just shy of his 94th birthday. Something tells me that this is more evidence of Trump’s sundowning, where events from three or four decades ago are more vividly recalled than events from three or four hours ago.

Over the weekend I went to a local deli, the entrance of which was semi-blocked by a disheveled guy. “Hey man, listen, I’m not gonna ask you for money—” I cut him off, “Yes, I’m sure you’re not, the time’s around 12:30” and breezed right by.
