Well, having the Doctor arrive at the wrong time/place is a pretty well-established trope in the Whoverse. It's even commented on explicitly by the TARDIS in "The Doctor's Wife." River Song/Melody Pond might be the only person who can actually fly the TARDIS with any kind of consistent accuracy.
