This truck is faketina

That looks like it has been patinaed , not natural . Fake patina is so stupid . Not a big fan of patina but I would consider preserving this look on that old Ford , it looks kind of cool .

I bet it’s cleaner than you’d expect.  They don’t salt the roads like some other places do, that’s the big driving factor in underbody rust.  Look at Florida or coastal CA, they are high salt environments and don’t show underbody rust like the Northeast.

I think I prefer that patina, because I think I could use your truck while wearing black and not worry about all the rust flakes.

*hits refresh 7543 times to get comments to appear* The key here is this is a real patina. It was not created by paint, hitting with chains, rather it is the old pair of jeans that hits that sweet spot.

I keep looking at mine and thinking “Ya know, with a paint job, this would be a pretty nice truck...” but then I get right back to tossing car parts in the bed willy nilly and come up with the perfect answer of “Nah.”

I’m not a big fan of patina (or as the rest of the world refers to it “rust”) but it would be silly to repaint a 35 year old work truck. It’s just an honest work horse so let it be. It’s worlds better than those that spend a lot of money to make their cars look like rusty junk for whatever reason. And it was that sexy

Not to mention that $1k engine that his friend has may have its own set of problems.

I say rebuild your existing engine. Yes, $1500 is more than $1000, but it’s still not a huge sum. Plus it will give you a lot more material for future articles.

You just learned about unboxing videos?

Welcome to the internet, its terrible here.

They don’t weigh that much? Even with steel bumpers, full factory skids, roof rack and 31s my XJ weighed in at just under 3700lbs. Based on a cursory search a 2000 XJ curb weight was 3300 vs the Escape at 3450. NVH, outside of typical solid axle stuff, really isn’t worse than any other unibody SUV of the era I’ve

Oh, god.  No.  First I learned last week that videos exist of people unboxing shit.  Now I learn there’s such a thing as “reaction” videos to OTHER videos.  Is that really a thing?

This needs to be the number one comment. Clips like this are what result in exhaust tube roll cages.

I disagree. The HD series of Lincoln welders are actually convertible to be used with a shielding gas if you want to. And after having used both a HF and Lincoln there’s no comparison. The Lincoln is simply easier to use and has a better feed system. We’re talking about a $150 difference here anyway.

But that’s actually what I like better about the C2. The C3 I do like, but it’s a big “American muscle car” already. The C2 seems like the American version of a lithe Italian coupé (and I like the fastback version even better than the droptop, strangely enough, given how much I like convertibles.)

There is a difference with Costco. They treat their employees far better than any other national chain, from pay to insurance to other benefits.

I make a quick grocery run once a week, in and out in 35 mins. Thankfully, staying the fuck away from people is my baseline, and getting in and out of stores (like...they’re fucking STORES. You don’t NEED to mill around.) has always been my imperative.

Exactly this. The financial/employment impact of the pandemic and related downturn has very much been focused on low wage earners (the likely market for compact cars), while upper income workers have so far been largely unscathed (a much higher percentage of high wage jobs can be done remotely).

Look at it this way- A clean ‘66 Mustang is in no risk of getting crushed. He could ditch it in the middle of a vacant lot, and someone else would take care of it. Those obscure-ass Jeeps? Only David would bother saving them. He’s the mother Teresa of interesting but rusty old Jeeps.
