I mean, it’s Alberta. It’s just oil fields and conservatives there.

That blue is spectacular.  The colour puts all other 300 SL’s to shame.

From what I gather, the protesters aren’t on the bridge or occupying areas in the federal government’s jurisdiction, so this is really more on municipal and provincial authorities. Ontario Premier Doug Ford has so far been happy to let the feds take all the blame for police inaction because he has an election coming

But how are you supposed to convince everyone that you totally don’t have a small penis in that old pickup?

Ottawa police are hesitant to harass their friends and family, and they’re probably still really salty that the city didn’t up their budget as much as they had wanted a couple of months ago.

Pimp my ride was really an awful show, but I still watched it back in the day, so probably can’t say its the worst.

The right wing governments in Alberta and Sask have been systematically reducing investment into education and health.

Sorry, didn’t mean to sound like I was disagree with you, more meant to add to your list with my own experiences.

2/ As rednecked and racist as some of the folks in Alberta are, and as much as they’re trying so hard to be Texas North, redneck racists abound across this country with rural Quebec and New Brunswick being worse than anything I’ve seen out west.

United? Ha!

What are they going to do, start arresting their friends and family who are out there with “Fuck Trudeau” flags?

TIL, GM still produces the Malibu...

Oh, I’ve experienced that firsthand a few times already during some adventures around the province.

You’re not wrong. Jason Kenney has had to fight off the opposition NDP as well as the cities of Calgary and Edmonton wanting stronger restrictions and sensible mandate policies, while simultaneously fending off a sizable part of his own party that hasn’t wanted any restrictions whatsoever.

Fair. I’m in Alberta so the rules are different.

I think the difference is that Fox is pretty much an apolitical figure while Tommy Douglas, though indeed well-regarded, was still a politician (and one on the left, to boot), and there have been no shortage of politicians and their supporters in this country who have been trying to undo his legacy (mainly public

I don’t know who the US equivalent would be, but basically you do not fuck with Terry Fox. Defacing the statue has turned a ton of formerly sympathetic people against this protest.

Even if it was a small number of them waving Nazi and Confederate flags, the dancing/pissing on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, parking on the Cenotaph, doing anything to a Terry Fox statue (our greatest hero), harassing food bank volunteers, etc lost them whatever support they may have had among average Canadians.

Oh also, think about what they’d say if the same exact protest was organized by Quebec separatists.

I think a lack of basic understanding about the division of powers in this country kinda does invalidate their movement, but then again maybe expecting them to remember grade 10 civics class is too much.
