It all stems back to the self-described Freedom Convoy 2022, a movement that began as a protest to Canada’s vaccine requirements for cross-border truckers that has since evolved into a catch-all rallying point for a slew of conservative talking points.

As if we (Canucks) needed any more evidence this is astroturfed foreign rat-fucking, and not a grassroots Canadian movement at all.

I don’t know who the US equivalent would be, but basically you do not fuck with Terry Fox. Defacing the statue has turned a ton of formerly sympathetic people against this protest.

Even if it was a small number of them waving Nazi and Confederate flags, the dancing/pissing on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, parking on the Cenotaph, doing anything to a Terry Fox statue (our greatest hero), harassing food bank volunteers, etc lost them whatever support they may have had among average Canadians.

Oh also, think about what they’d say if the same exact protest was organized by Quebec separatists.

I think a lack of basic understanding about the division of powers in this country kinda does invalidate their movement, but then again maybe expecting them to remember grade 10 civics class is too much.

This is about ending government mandates over personal medical choices and tying them to people’s employment.
