Maserati Merak — used a steering wheel shared with the Citroen SM...which was almost as bizarre as the wheel in the Aston Martin Lagonda.

I’d wager the C5 was worse. My father had one in Z06 form. Firmly rooted in the era before GM figured out how to make an interior, the steering wheel there was atrocious.
