Some stats skyrocket while others drop. Mawile for instance gets a spatk and spdef boost but thanks to its ability changing (can't remember the name of it) it's attack also doubles. So if you're rocking an Adamant mawile that's been EV trained to wreck, well, it's going to one shot almost anything it hits.
